Gemcoal SAS is a commercial company whose main purpose is the commercialization and sale of coal to the international market, its derivatives and related products, as well as other types of minerals and solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. It was officially constituted and registered in the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá on September 25, 2013, with its main office in Bogotá, Colombia.

 

The management team of Gemcoal has more than 20 years of experience in the international coal business and other commodities, as managers of the initial activities of the coal business in Colombia and an important part of its subsequent development in companies such as Glencore, Tradexa and the Trafigura group.

On the other hand, Gemcoal has a joint venture agreement with ECI Commodities International L.L.C, an American company dedicated to the commercialization of coal. Recently, ECI celebrated its 20 years of existence during which, the company has exported and imported thermal coals and coke to more than 25 customers worldwide, surpassing gross sales of 2 billion dollars and more than 50 million tons.

 

In July 2012, ECI sold 30% of the company to E.ON Energy in the United States, a subsidiary of the German group E.ON Global Commodities, the main power generator in Europe. In January 2014, E.ON increased its participation in ECI to 49%. With this new alliance, ECI already has a market of more than 30 million tons of coal and iron ore to support its customers with excellent quality and competitive prices.

 

This association gives Gemcoal a solid support in the generation of supply of Colombian coal, economies of scale in the operation, and logistics to the port of shipment and/or port of final destination.

 

Gemcoal provides services to E.ON Global Commodities and oversees operations for ECI Commodities International L.L.C. in exports from Colombia. Gemcoal maintains strong relationships with strategic allies such as mining producers, port operators, transporters and inspectors.
